Parliament pushes to keep UNIFIL in south Lebanon as deadline nears

The Lebanese Parliament’s efforts to keep UNIFIL in the south are showing no signs of slowing down, at a sensitive and volatile time when the future of dozens of towns occupied by Israel remains uncertain. Israel has paid no heed to calls for its withdrawal and has not abided by the framework agreement with Lebanon. It is no longer a secret that Tel Aviv does not want any international force stationed along its northern border, so that it can continue to control and encroach on Lebanese territory.
