UAE’s MoHAP raises awareness of respiratory syncytial virus and seasonal prevention

Abu Dhabi: The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) is raising public awareness of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) as part of its campaign on influenza and seasonal respiratory diseases.

In information shared through the campaign, MoHAP describes RSV as a common and contagious respiratory virus that can cause mild symptoms or severe illness. The ministry highlights infants and older adults as groups particularly at risk of severe illness.

RSV also has a seasonal pattern. According to the MoHAP campaign material, the virus spreads seasonally during autumn and winter, reinforcing the importance of awareness and prevention during these periods.

The campaign also draws attention to measures that can help prevent severe RSV illness. MoHAP says this can include recommended vaccines, as well as long-acting monoclonal antibodies for infants.

The awareness initiative forms part of MoHAP’s broader messaging on influenza and seasonal respiratory diseases, with the ministry emphasising that knowledge is the first step towards prevention.

The campaign carries the message: “Protect yourself. Protect your community.”
