Student unions call for strike in France next Tuesday

Unions representing students and teachers in France have called for a strike next Tuesday to maintain pressure on the government to increase education spending, as part of a wave of protests that has been ongoing for weeks and includes school closures and demonstrations.

In a joint statement issued on Saturday, unions representing teachers and students said: “Our movement is in a position of strength, while the government is in a position of weakness and has begun to give in.” They added: “It is time to broaden the scope of the protests and maintain pressure on the government.”
