Saudi, Turkish ministers discuss climate cooperation ahead of COP31

RIYADH — Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman met Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum in Riyadh to discuss cooperation on climate action ahead of the COP31 climate conference.Kurum, who also serves as president-designate of the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31), which will be held in Antalya, Türkiye, in November, discussed with the Saudi minister ways to strengthen cooperation on global climate action.The two sides reviewed joint efforts to advance the objectives and principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, with the aim of achieving inclusive, balanced and practical outcomes that take into account the national circumstances of member states.They also reviewed Saudi Arabia's initiatives to address the impacts of climate change, including expanding the use of renewable energy, managing, reducing and removing emissions through the Saudi Green Initiative, and implementing the circular carbon economy approach and its associated technologies.The meeting also covered national and regional initiatives led by the Kingdom, including the Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation, both of which are scheduled to take place in the fourth quarter of this year.
