Government develops digital integration to accelerate companies’ capital increases: Investment minister

Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid said the government is developing an integrated electronic system linking the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), and the commercial registry to accelerate capital increase procedures and support the expansion of existing companies. Speaking at the Capital Market Development Package Conference, organised by the Egyptian Exchange, Farid said the digital integration project is designed to enable companies to access growth financing more efficiently while supporting the government’s efforts to boost productive investment and create jobs. The conference was attended by Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, FRA Chairperson Islam Azzam, EGX Chairperson Omar Radwan, and EGX Vice Chairperson Mohamed Sabry. Farid said Egypt is implementing a comprehensive economic reform agenda aimed at enhancing the economy’s competitiveness, improving the investment climate, and increasing private sector participation through a package of legislative, institutional, and procedural reforms designed to create a more efficient, transparent, and flexible business environment. He added that the reform programme is underpinned by stable economic policies and close coordination among government institutions to ensure reforms are implemented swiftly and deliver tangible benefits to investors. The government, he said, is also accelerating the transition towards digital public services, simplified procedures, and unified investor services. Farid noted that the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade is redesigning the entire investor journey to make it faster, simpler, and more transparent by replacing traditional procedures with integrated digital services that reduce the time and cost of establishing and expanding businesses. He highlighted the Economic Entities Platform as one of the ministry’s flagship projects. The platform will provide a single digital gateway through which investors can establish companies, obtain approvals and licences, and complete government procedures electronically by connecting with all relevant authorities, reducing paperwork and improving service delivery in line with international best practice. Farid stressed that capital market development remains a cornerstone of efforts to improve the investment environment. The ministry is working to remove procedural obstacles facing companies seeking to list on the Egyptian Exchange, simplify capital increase procedures, and encourage mergers and acquisitions to create stronger, more competitive companies while deepening the capital market and enhancing its appeal to local and international investors. He said incentives alone are not sufficient to strengthen the capital market, underscoring the need to raise awareness among companies about the benefits and requirements of listing on the Egyptian Exchange and the role of capital markets in financing business expansion. Farid added that increasing the number of listed companies and expanding the investor base requires continued efforts to simplify procedures, strengthen engagement with businesses, and clarify listing requirements and advantages so that more companies can benefit from capital market financing. On the “Egypt Launches for Export” initiative, Farid said the ministry is implementing an integrated plan to expand Egypt’s exporter base by increasing the number of companies capable of accessing international markets. The initiative focuses on reaching industrial and production clusters across the country’s governorates and connecting companies with the services provided by affiliated institutions, including the Export Development Authority, the Export Development Fund, the Commercial Representation Authority, and the General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences. He added that the initiative extends beyond financial incentives by helping companies meet international technical standards and strengthen their production and marketing capabilities, thereby enhancing the global competitiveness of Egyptian products. Farid said improving the investment climate also requires continued development of the legislative and regulatory framework, more efficient government services, integrated databases, and wider adoption of digital solutions in cooperation with state institutions. He concluded that the government’s reform programme aims to reduce the cost of doing business, improve resource allocation, stimulate higher value-added productive investment, localise industry, facilitate technology transfer, create employment opportunities, and strengthen Egypt’s resilience to global economic challenges. The Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, he added, will continue implementing its reform agenda in coordination with relevant authorities to reinforce investor confidence, strengthen Egypt’s position as an attractive investment destination, increase investment and exports, and support sustainable economic growth.
