Cairo-Seoul relations enter new phase: Korean ambassador

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Egypt held a reception at the Ambassador’s residence in Cairo to celebrate Korea’s National Day, which this year coincides with the 31st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Egypt. The event was attended by around 400 guests, including Hussein Eissa, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, who served as the guest of honour, and Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade. The gathering also brought together senior Egyptian government officials, prominent political and economic figures, business leaders, and members of the diplomatic corps. The celebration was organised as part of the K-Initiative, which aims to use the National Day occasion as a diplomatic platform to showcase the appeal of Korean culture through cooperation with a number of Korean institutions. During the event, students from the Korean Language Department at Ain Shams University performed Samulnori, while Egypt’s national Taekwondo team presented demonstrations, including board-breaking performances. A special K-Beauty pavilion was also organised in cooperation with the Korea-Africa Foundation, highlighting the strong interest in K-Culture among Egyptians. The K-Beauty exhibition featured five Korean cosmetics companies — Bephor, K-style hub, Youth O’ Clock, Dermanique, and WBI (Welbiz International Limited) — along with Korean biotechnology company NXbiomed and SOME, a company operating a Korean skincare products store in Egypt. In his remarks during the celebration, Kim Wan-Joong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt, said relations between Korea and Egypt have recently entered a new phase of transition across various fields, including politics, the economy, and culture. The Ambassador also expressed his hope that Korea and Egypt would continue working together to strengthen cooperation for peace and stability in the region and contribute to addressing global issues. He said such cooperation would be based on Korea’s vision of being a constructive contributor, as presented by President Lee Jae-Myung during his participation in this year’s United Nations General Assembly.
