El-Balad reported that Israeli warplanes and drones carried out over 130 strikes on Nabatieh and its surrounding localities within a single 24-hour window, while Sada El-Balad confirmed at least five fatalities from separate Israeli aerial and drone attacks on southern Lebanon. Lebanese media further reported that the Israeli army executed more than 16 airstrikes after a ceasefire was formally declared at 4:00 p.m. local time, casting serious doubt on Israeli compliance with the announced pause. Heavy explosions were also reported in the Tila Ali Al-Taher area of southern Lebanon, with Israeli media acknowledging that a formal military operation to occupy the hills of Jabal Ali Al-Taher had officially commenced.
On the Israeli side, El-Balad cited Dana Abu Shamsiya, correspondent for Al-Qahera Al-Khabariya channel, reporting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains committed to continuing military operations and refuses to withdraw from southern Lebanon. However, an unnamed senior American official quoted by El-Balad stated that Netanyahu had "fully agreed" to the ceasefire terms amid significant diplomatic pressure, introducing an apparent contradiction between Israeli public posture and back-channel commitments. The Israeli army separately announced the deaths of four of its soldiers, including a battalion commander holding the rank of lieutenant colonel, in fighting in southern Lebanon.
On the diplomatic front, El-Balad and Newsd reported that Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aati held a telephone call with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, during which he praised the efforts of Pakistan and regional parties in reaching a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran to halt hostilities. Egypt also announced it will host a quadrilateral meeting on Sunday, June 21, 2026, bringing together the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan alongside Abdel Aati to discuss regional developments. Separately, Axios, as cited by El-Balad, reported that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is planning a Gulf tour next week encompassing the UAE and Kuwait, with an anticipated call between Rubio and Netanyahu to address the Lebanese file also expected imminently.
