Young Emirati’s final gift saves eight lives through UAE’s Hayat organ donation programme

Dubai: Little did Emirati girl Fatima know that a humanitarian decision made by her family would leave an impact on eight homes and that her name would remain present in the lives of people she had never met. After Fatima was injured in an accident, her parents enrolled her in the 'Hayat' organ donation programme, believing in its noble humanitarian mission. They were convinced that giving can continue even after a person is gone, reflecting the values of generosity and compassion deeply rooted in UAE society. Her parents never expected the day when this decision would become a reality, as fate brought a difficult test for the family. Fatima passed away at an early age, leaving behind deep sadness in the hearts of her parents and everyone who knew her.The loss was beyond words, and the house, once filled with her laughter, became silent. But amid their grief, her parents realised they could give a part of her life to others. They chose to transform the pain of loss into hope and a new chance at life for others. With courage and faith, the parents agreed to donate the organs of their late daughter. The decision was not easy, but it was an extension of the values Fatima had grown up with. Her organs contributed to saving the lives of eight people of different nationalities who were battling disease and waiting for a second chance at life, a chance to return to their families and create new dreams and memories with their loved ones.Their loss remains devastating, but Fatima's parents find solace when they meet some of the transplant recipients or hear about their new lives. They feel a deep sense that their daughter is still present among them."When we see people living with our child's organs, we feel that she is still with us. We know that part of her is still beating somewhere and that she has left behind a life that has extended to other people," her father said.Dr Rashid Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre.Dr Rashid Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, praised the Hayat programme and its role in promoting organ donation in the UAE.He said organ donation can give patients a renewed opportunity to live while restoring hope to their families.Fatima's story, he added, is a powerful reminder that a person's legacy can continue long after death. While she may no longer be present in her parents' home, her legacy now lives on through eight people whose lives have been transformed by her donation. For Fatima's family, her story is no longer defined solely by the circumstances of her death. It is also a story of generosity, courage and lives saved.Eight people now have an opportunity to spend more time with their families, pursue their dreams and create new memories.Fatima left this world too soon, but through the gift of organ donation, her story continues in the lives of eight people she never had the chance to meet.
