Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court has sentenced a driver to six months in prison after convicting him of deliberately endangering the lives of road users by driving recklessly, travelling against the flow of traffic and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.The court also imposed a AED100,000 fine, ordered the confiscation of the vehicle used in the incident and suspended the defendant's driving licence for three years, effective after completion of his prison sentence.According to court records, the defendant was observed driving in a manner that posed a serious threat to public safety, including driving against the direction of traffic.Following his arrest, authorities found the driver to be in an abnormal condition. A blood sample analysed by the forensic evidence laboratory confirmed the presence of alcohol.The court based its ruling on several pieces of evidence, including the arrest report, surveillance camera footage from monitoring and control centres that documented the violations, and the defendant's admission before the court.In its judgment, the court stated that the defendant's conduct represented a serious breach of traffic regulations and applicable legislation.The court affirmed the importance of strict enforcement of the Federal Decree-Law on Traffic Regulation and the Crimes and Penalties Law to deter behaviour that endangers the safety of road users and threatens public security.The ruling underscores the UAE's continued efforts to strengthen road safety and enforce traffic laws against serious violations that put lives at risk.
