Dubai: With the next public holiday just a month away, you may be wondering if August could bring another long weekend.The UAE’s official list of holidays includes seven different occasions that are observed as a public holiday in the country.When is the next public holiday?The next official holiday on the UAE calendar is Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) birthday, which, as per the Hijri calendar, falls on the 12th of Rabi’ Al Awal.The exact date of the holiday will be known only after the official announcement by the moon-sighting committee, when it sights the moon for the month of Rabi’ Al Awwal.However, according to a list of holidays published by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat (Awqaf), that may fall on August 25, which is a Tuesday.Long weekend?If that does happen, there is a chance that you still get a long weekend.This is because there is a holiday transfer provision in the Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024 Concerning the Public Holidays in the State, which states that an official public holiday on the list may be moved to the beginning or end of the week, following a decision by the UAE Cabinet.The exceptions to this rule are the following holidays:Eid Al FitrArafat DayEid Al AdhaPublic holidays remaining in 2026After August, the only public holiday left for the year will be in December, when the UAE marks the Union Day, with December 2 and 3 declared as public holiday.
