The White House posted a photo of U.S. President Donald Trump on X, accompanied by the caption: "Trump is still your president," followed by the statement: "Thank you for your attention to this matter."
In a rare gesture, the U.S. president had praised his Democratic opponents following their sweeping victory in the midterm elections, while refusing to accept any personal responsibility for the outcome.
Trump, 80, instead sought to shift the blame onto members of his own Republican Party.
"Congratulations to the Democrats. They did a good job. They've been looking for this one for 11 years and they finally got it. But I don't view it as a hit on me," Trump said in a telephone interview with Fox News.
Such positive remarks from Trump are highly unusual, as he spent much of the midterm election campaign directing a range of accusations at Democrats, including labeling them communists and Islamists.
