His visit to Dar al-Fatwa and meeting with Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, although part of the meetings he has been holding with political and religious leaders, most recently his meeting with Druze Sheikh Akl Sami Abi al-Mouna, amounted to a message of support for Dar al-Fatwa and its mufti, whose legitimacy is being challenged. It also gave him an opportunity to set out his positions from a Sunni platform, just as he had done by expressing a series of similar positions regarding Hezbollah from the Druze religious establishment.
