Video: Abu Dhabi Police warn motorists against stopping in the middle of the road

Dubai: Abu Dhabi Police have released traffic camera footage showing a series of serious road crashes caused by vehicles stopping in the middle of the road, warning motorists that even a brief stop can trigger devastating chain-reaction collisions. The awareness video, published in cooperation with the Monitoring and Control Centre, captures multiple real-life incidents in which vehicles came to a halt on live carriageways, leading to successive crashes as approaching drivers failed to notice the obstruction in time or were distracted while traffic slowed.According to Abu Dhabi Police's Traffic and Patrols Directorate, stopping in the middle of the road due to a flat tyre, vehicle breakdown or any other emergency poses a significant danger to all road users.Police urged motorists, whenever it is safe and possible to do so, to continue driving to the nearest exit, hard shoulder or another safe location instead of stopping in an active traffic lane.If the vehicle cannot be moved, drivers should immediately contact the Command and Control Centre by calling 999 to request assistance. Authorities said this helps emergency teams respond quickly, reduces the risk of serious secondary collisions and keeps traffic flowing safely.Abu Dhabi Police also reminded motorists to remain fully focused while driving, avoid distractions and stay alert to unexpected situations on the road. Maintaining concentration and being prepared to react to emergencies can help drivers avoid collisions and make the right decisions at critical moments, the authority said.
