ALBAWABA - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his team held a meeting with Qatari mediators in Doha on Tuesday evening and received a new suggestion sent by the United States to end the war, an official familiar with the Iran-U.S. talks told Reuters on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the Iranian minister received the U.S. response to the "seven-day proposal", which the contents of which were not disclosed, and is set to discuss it with Iranian officials today in the capital, Tehran.
The official added that the main point of contention concerns the sequencing of the plan's steps, which aim to build trust and return to an enhanced version of a memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran in June.
Earlier on Wednesday, Axios, citing three sources familiar with the talks, reported that Qatari mediator Ali Al-Thawadi held a meeting for several hours on Monday with Araghchi and his team in New York.
According to an informed source, the two sides discussed a two-page Qatari settlement proposal. Axios also cited two other sources who said that the Qatari plan aims to address Iran's demand for the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade in exchange for the U.S. demand that Tehran make concessions regarding its nuclear program.

Additionally, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said that Araghchi conveyed the US response to President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday, according to Tasnim news agency.
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York, Iran sent a seven-day proposal to the Americans, but it was rejected by the Trump administration.
The proposal aimed to revive the diplomatic track and pave the way for future talks on the nuclear file, while currently focusing on the issue of reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for Washington meeting specific Iranian demands and conditions.
Sources familiar with the talks revealed to the New Arab on Tuesday that the new Iranian proposal represents a "scaled-down, condensed version" of the memorandum of understanding agreed last June.
