RIYADH — The US Embassy in Yemen said the Houthis “started this conflict and must bear the consequences of their aggression,” affirming the right of Yemen’s internationally recognized government and Saudi Arabia to defend themselves.In a statement, the embassy said the Republic of Yemen is the sole legitimate government and has the right to defend its people and end the Houthis’ ability to carry out attacks.It added that Saudi Arabia has the right to defend its territory and citizens and support Yemen’s legitimate government in ending Houthi terrorism.The European Union strongly condemned the attacks on civilian and economic infrastructure in southern Saudi Arabia, which injured 73 civilians, including women and children.“We express our full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and wish those injured a full and speedy recovery. The targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure is unacceptable,” the EU said.The bloc described the attacks as a dangerous escalation that violates international law, undermines regional security and stability, and risks further jeopardizing efforts toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Yemen.It called on the Houthis to immediately end all attacks inside and outside Yemen, including attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea, and comply with UN Security Council Resolutions 2722 (2024) and 2826 (2026).The EU said peace and stability in Yemen are essential to the security of the Gulf region and the Red Sea, reaffirming its commitment to working with the United Nations, regional partners and the international community toward de-escalation and a comprehensive, inclusive and sustainable peace.
