The United States Central Command confirmed on Tuesday that “Iranian claims about U.S. forces leaving the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. Navy moving hundreds of kilometers away are incorrect,” pointing out that “U.S. forces deployed in the Middle East are monitoring the situation in the strait and its surrounding waters.”
The command added that “U.S. forces and their partners in the region are the ones controlling the Strait of Hormuz, not Iran,” in response to statements by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard regarding the U.S. military presence in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategic maritime passage for global oil trade, connecting the Arabian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
The military presence around the strait remains a focal point of tension between Washington and Tehran, amid conflicting statements about control over the waterway and the movement of naval forces within it.
