Abu Dhabi: Under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE, through the UAE Aid Agency, has launched an urgent humanitarian response to support people affected by the recent floods in the Republic of Ghana.The floods caused fatalities and widespread damage to homes and infrastructure, affecting thousands of families across the country.The UAE's humanitarian response reflects its longstanding commitment to supporting countries and communities affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises.According to the UAE Aid Agency, the floods affected 131,825 people from 21,367 families, displaced 38,651 people and resulted in 45 deaths.Dr Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to providing rapid emergency assistance during natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.Al Ameri said the relief effort includes the provision of essential food supplies and shelter materials to support those affected, while also assisting the Ghanaian government's response to the disaster.He added that UAE Aid Agency teams are working with local partners in Ghana to deliver aid to the most affected and vulnerable families, provide essential food and shelter assistance, and support early recovery and stabilisation efforts.The UAE had previously expressed its solidarity with Ghana following the floods caused by heavy rainfall, which resulted in deaths, injuries and extensive damage. The UAE also extended its condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Ghana, while wishing those injured a speedy recovery.
