UAE – The United Arab Emirates and Egypt have established a strategic agreement to broaden bilateral air traffic rights over the next five years, as the two nations move to accommodate rising travel demand while strengthening trade, supply chain integration and economic ties between two of the region’s most active aviation and logistics hubs.
The phased framework, signed during the 11th Edition of ICAO AFI Week in Cairo, will gradually expand air services between the UAE and Egypt, creating new opportunities for cargo operators and passenger airlines alike.
The agreement was signed by Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and Captain Sameh Fawzy, President of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA).
Logistics Impact and Perishable Goods Trade
The expanded air traffic rights will boost belly-hold cargo capacity on passenger flights, while providing additional lift for high-value perishables that require rapid transit to maintain quality and shelf life.
Egyptian fresh produce exporters, who have historically relied on sea freight for bulk shipments, will gain access to faster air cargo options for premium products destined for UAE supermarkets and re-export hubs.
For the UAE, the agreement enables Egyptian agricultural goods to move seamlessly through Dubai’s world-class airport and port infrastructure.
Regional Connectivity and Economic Integration
Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Board of the General Civil Aviation Authority, said: “This understanding reflects the depth of the strategic relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Arab Republic of Egypt and demonstrates our shared vision to strengthen regional air connectivity. The phased expansion of air traffic rights will support the aviation sector, promote tourism, the economy, and investment, and further advance the distinguished economic partnership between our two countries.”
