Dubai: The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has approved a new indication for RINVOQ (upadacitinib) to treat non-segmental vitiligo in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older whose condition requires systemic therapy.The approval makes RINVOQ the first licensed oral treatment for this group of patients and positions the UAE as the first country in the world to approve the expanded use of the medicine for this indication.RINVOQ is administered orally once daily, providing an additional treatment option for eligible patients in accordance with approved medical guidelines.The Emirates Drug Establishment said the approval reflects the UAE's commitment to adopting innovative therapies and accelerating patient access to advanced medical treatments.According to EDE, the decision forms part of a modern regulatory framework designed to keep pace with global scientific advances, strengthen the pharmaceutical sector and improve treatment outcomes for patients.Non-segmental vitiligo is the most common form of vitiligo, a chronic condition that causes the loss of skin pigmentation in patches across different areas of the body.The EDE also encouraged members of the public to consult healthcare professionals if they notice unusual changes in skin colour, stressing the importance of early diagnosis, appropriate medical assessment and selecting the most suitable treatment for each patient.
