ALBAWABA - U.S. President Donald Trump told the United Nations General Assembly that he is moving to change the name of AI from “Artificial” intelligence to SI “Super” intelligence in all U.S. official documents.
Super intelligence, however, is already a thing within the AI industry and it is described as a form of the technology which exceeds human intelligence. SI is also the final goal of many AI firms and, at the same, the biggest worry among AI doomsayers.
The UNGA statement follows a spree of AI-centric discussions in the United States regarding whether or not to regulate the development of the technology, as multiple AI tech giant heads came forward with a warning of a need to slow the development down until ‘guardrails’ can catch-up.
Trump pushed against this proposal, not wanting the U.S. to lose to China in the AI arms race; at the UNGA he said:
“The United States also totally rejects any attempt to construct a globality scheme to control for the artificial intelligence being spoken of so much now, hereinafter called super intelligence. Changing the name,” Trump told all the countries of the world.
“The use of the word artificial makes intelligence sound fake,” he continued. “It is not fake. It’s actually amazing. But we have to be careful. In fact, it is exactly the opposite of what it purports.”
“From this point forward, all of United States documents and hopefully the world’s will be changed to use the much more accurate term super as opposed to artificial,” he continued.
“In other words, welcome to the new world of super intelligence — SI,” he said. “Let’s see if that goes. It sounds much better. It is much better, and it’s much more accurate.”
