Dubai: Temperatures across the UAE are expected to begin gradually declining during September, particularly at night and during the second half of the month, as the country transitions towards autumn, according to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).The centre said September is the final month of summer, with astronomical autumn set to begin on 23 September when the sun is directly above the equator before its apparent movement south towards the Tropic of Capricorn.According to the NCM, average temperatures during September are expected to be around or slightly above the long-term average, with the nationwide monthly average forecast at 33.4°C.Rainfall during the month is expected to be close to the historical average of 5.5mm.The centre noted that relative humidity will increase during September, particularly during the early morning hours in some areas, with maximum humidity levels reaching 76 per cent.The NCM said the influence of the Indian monsoon low pressure system will gradually weaken during the month. However, the UAE will continue to be affected by extensions of thermal low-pressure systems from the Arabian Peninsula, accompanied by relatively active winds that may raise dust and sand and occasionally reduce horizontal visibility.The centre added that conditions remain favourable for the formation of convective clouds accompanied by rainfall, particularly over eastern parts of the country, with their effects potentially extending into some inland areas.Prevailing winds are expected to be southeasterly during late-night and morning hours, shifting to northwesterly during the afternoon and evening under the influence of the land and sea breeze cycle.Humidity levels are also expected to increase slightly compared with August, especially during the second half of the month. The average relative humidity is forecast at 50 per cent.As a result, the NCM said the likelihood of fog and mist formation will increase in scattered areas across the country during September.
