ALBAWABA - The Military Criminal Court in Aleppo, Syria, issued verdicts today, on Sept. 17, against four defendants regarding violations that took place in the Syrian coastal region against Alawites.
The military court sentenced one defendant to death by hanging, a second to life imprisonment, and a third to 20 years in prison, while acquitting the fourth, a "Syria Now" correspondent reported Thursday.
According to the judge's ruling, the court found one of the defendants guilty of offenses including: assault intended to incite civil war and sectarian strife; arming Syrians against one another; instigating killing and looting; and participating in an armed gang tasked with attacking public security forces—actions that resulted in the deaths of more than two people. He was sentenced to death by hanging, in addition to being placed under legal interdiction, stripped of civil rights, and ordered to pay court costs.
The sentencing hearing took place earlier today at the Military Criminal Court within the Aleppo Justice Palace, presided over by Judge Zakaria Bakkar, the head of the court, and attended by the relevant judicial authorities.
Syria's Palace of Justice has seen approximately nine trial sessions for those accused of committing violations during the events on the Syrian coast since the proceedings began on November 18, 2025.
