State accelerates renewable energy expansion

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, has reaffirmed the state’s continued commitment to advancing its energy transition agenda, expanding the contribution of renewable energy within the national energy mix, and accelerating the implementation of solar and wind power projects. This goes in line with the country’s strategy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and enhance sustainability. Minister Esmat made the remarks during a meeting with founder and managing partner of the Emirati company Alcazar Energy, Daniel Calderon, and an accompanying delegation. The discussions focused on reviewing the latest developments and implementation progress of the 1,500MW wind energy projects being developed by Alcazar Energy in the Zafarana and South Hurghada regions, the ministry said in a statement. Minister Esmat stressed the importance of adhering strictly to the agreed timelines, expediting implementation procedures, and ensuring timely connection of the projects to the unified national electricity grid in accordance with the established schedule. He also reviewed the current status of project execution, completion rates, and the various stages of implementation. The minister further highlighted developments in the 500 MW wind power project in Zafarana, as well as the 1,000MW project in South Hurghada, which is being executed in two phases. These projects form part of the broader national action plan to maximise the use of renewable energy sources and increase their share in the electricity generation mix, he noted. Minister Esmat reiterated the state’s strategic direction towards a comprehensive energy transformation, with clearly defined implementation schedules and binding timelines for grid connection. He emphasised ongoing coordination with project partners to address any challenges that could affect delivery schedules, while ensuring compliance with national energy objectives.
