Dubai: If you are sponsoring your son on a family visa, you may be wondering if there is an age limit that makes it difficult for him to stay on the visa once he moves to college.The UAE’s visa regulations were recently updated, with the age limits amended as per Cabinet Resolution No. 65 of 2022, which came into effect on September 5, 2022.The resolution lays down the age restrictions that need to be complied with, for a UAE resident to sponsor their children as a dependent.Here is how the current rules work:Sons up to 25 years: Can remain under their parents' sponsorship without the previous requirement to provide annual proof of university enrolment.Sons aged over 25: May continue under sponsorship if they are studying full-time in a higher education programme, subject to approval by the immigration authority.Unmarried daughters: Can remain sponsored regardless of age, provided they remain unmarried.Golden Visa holders: If the parent holds a 10-year Golden Visa, they are exempt from these age thresholds entirely and can sponsor their children regardless of age.The resolution also notes that children with special needs, regardless of age, can be sponsored in accordance with the regulations issued by the Chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP).Medical fitness test requirementIf you do plan to sponsor your children, any child above the age of 18 will also need to take the medical fitness test.
