President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reaffirmed on Saturday Egypt’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with France and expanding bilateral co-operation across various sectors in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries and supports the broader strategic relationship between Egypt and the European Union. The remarks came during President Sisi’s meeting with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron in New Borg El Arab City, on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the new campus of Senghor University. Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy stated that President Sisi welcomed President Macron’s visit to Egypt, describing it as a reflection of the longstanding friendship between the two countries. He added that the president praised the notable progress achieved in bilateral relations, particularly following the elevation of ties to the level of a strategic partnership during President Macron’s visit to Egypt in April 2025. President Sisi also underlined the importance of further enhancing co-operation in the fields of trade, investment, education, industry and transport. For his part, President Macron expressed his pleasure at returning to Egypt and congratulated the country on the inauguration of the new campus of Senghor University, describing it as an important academic institution that promotes scientific and cultural co-operation among member states of the International Organisation of La Francophonie and contributes to preparing future leaders. The French president also commended the progress in bilateral relations and affirmed France’s keenness to further strengthen co-operation with Egypt across various sectors. He further praised the growing volume of trade exchange and French investments in Egypt, expressing France’s aspiration to deepen economic partnership between the two countries. Ambassador Shennawy added that the discussions also addressed regional developments, with President Sisi reviewing Egypt’s ongoing efforts to contain regional tensions and stressing the importance of avoiding further escalation given its serious implications for regional and international security, as well as global trade and transport routes. President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s continued support for the security and stability of Arab states and reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any infringement upon their sovereignty or the safety of their peoples. The two presidents also exchanged views on developments regarding the Palestinian issue, Shennawy said. In this respect, President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to consolidate the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, while stressing the need to begin reconstruction efforts without delay. He also reiterated that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only viable path towards lasting peace, in line with international law and the two-state solution. The talks also touched on developments in Lebanon and the importance of maintaining regional stability, alongside strengthening co-operation among Mediterranean countries to promote development and shared prosperity.
