The President and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Gloria Guevara, stated that her meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi reflected a clear commitment from the Egyptian political leadership towar enhancing the investment climate and supporting the travel and tourism sector as a vital pillar of the national economy. A strategic investment vision Guevara noted that during the meeting, President Sisi was eager to thank participating investors and listen to their visions on attracting further investment to Egypt. This comes came as part of the state’s continuous efforts to develop the sector and maximize the potential of Egypt’s tourism assets. She added that President Sisi discussed the mechanisms for attracting new investors and listened directly to views from attendees on current challenges and opportunities, reflecting a practical focus on developing the investment environment. The WTTC CEO explained that the Egyptian President highlighted the importance of the travel and tourism sector to his country’s economy, citing its ability to drive growth, create jobs, and boost investment flows. Resilience amid global challenges Guevara pointed out that Egypt has made significant progress in infrastructure and development, asserting that projects implemented in recent years reflect a clear vision and long-term strategy. “Egypt is moving very well despite global and regional challenges,” she said, noting that the state has successfully maintained its development path regardless of surrounding circumstances. Leadership with courage and vision She praised President Sisi’s character, stating that the most influential leaders combine courage with a clear vision, and that Sisi belongs to this class of leaders. She added: “I was very excited to meet him, especially given his deep understanding of the importance of the travel and tourism sector and its role in supporting the economy.” Guevara revealed that her primary message to Sisi was the importance of expanding the global dialogue on the role of tourism in supporting national economies. She stated that she asked the Egyptian President to share his vision and experience with world leaders, as his clear understanding makes his experience an important model for international benefit. The “human factor”: Hospitality as a national asset Guevara expressed great admiration towards the Egyptian people, stating that they possess great hospitality, warmth, and generosity. “I love the Egyptian people because they welcome people from the heart; this is one of their most beautiful qualities,” she added. A global model for economic growth She affirmed that Egypt possesses the potential for further growth, supported by the political leadership and continuous infrastructure development. She also reviewed WTTC efforts in measuring the sector’s global economic contributions, noting that travel and tourism contribute four percent to global GDP growth. She highlighted that one out of every nine countries globally depends primarily on this sector. Furthermore, she noted that while the global economy grew by 2.8 percent, the travel and tourism sector recorded 4.1 percent growth, with growth rates in the Middle East and Africa reaching approximately 5 percent. The WTTC CEO concluded her remarks emphasizing that Egypt represents a clear model of resilience and the ability to handle crises with high efficiency and flexibility, and praised the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities for its distinguished performance and the noticeable increase in Egyptian tourism revenues.
