She lost her bracelet at a mall in Dubai. Four days later, one message brought it back.

Dubai: Hundred out of ten. That is how 25-year-old Indian expat Dhwani Arvind Gada describes security in Dubai. The rating isn’t an exaggeration, after the social media manager managed to get back her bracelet four days after she lost it at Mall of Emirates.

“I honestly didn’t even know where I had lost it, as it was a very busy day for me,” she told Emirates 24|7.

Last week, on October 22, after a long day at work, Gada visited the mall for a short visit, before heading back home.

It wasn’t until she was home that she realised her bracelet was missing.

“It was my first purchase in Dubai, so it is very special to me,” she said.

What began as a hunt to retrace her steps, ended up taking her to her residential building’s security team, as well as Dubai Metro’s Lost and Found section.

“They were all very polite, but my bracelet wasn’t lost at any of these locations. When I was at the National Paints Metro station in Jebel Ali, they asked me to also check myself, if I hadn’t misplaced it somewhere. That’s when I remembered that I’d also been to the mall that day,” she said.

This was Monday, October 26, four days after she had lost her bracelet.

But a simple call to the mall was enough for her to be connected to the mall’s security team, who asked her for a picture of the bracelet. Before she could get off at the Metro station near her home – hardly 15 minutes later – she received a confirmation. The bracelet had been found.

“I honestly couldn’t believe it. I went to the mall the next day, they asked me for my Emirates ID and to fill in a form, after which I got my bracelet,” she said.

I’m not moving

Having arrived in Dubai just two years ago, Gada says she completed her Master’s degree in the city, before starting her professional life. But for a woman living alone in the city, this wasn’t the first brush she’s had with the safety Dubai is globally recognised for.

“I’ve even lost my passport,” Gada said, laughing.

“This was back when I was in university, and because I was new to Dubai back then, I literally panicked. But sure enough, I received it just the way it was. That was my first solid, positive experience of safety in Dubai,” she said.

And it is experiences like these that give her even more reasons to see her future in the city that she now calls home.

“I’m never moving from here,” she said.
