An estimated 1.2 million vehicles move everyday on the route from Sharjah to Dubai, according to details released by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).This traffic is spread across five main highways, with a total of 2 lanes within Dubai. The RTA confirmed that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road is one of the most important of these highways, as it has eight lanes in Dubai, representing 32% of the total lanes allocated for entering the emirate from Sharjah.The Authority explained to Emarat Al Youm that its current and future plans include the implementation of several strategic projects to expand and develop the parallel and supporting routes of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, which will contribute to distributing traffic over a wider network of roads, in addition to conducting studies and plans aimed at raising the efficiency of the road network and enhancing public transport services between Dubai and Sharjah, in continuous coordination with the concerned authorities.In response to the Emarat Al Youm story regarding the appeals from a number of users of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to address the frequent traffic congestion on the road, especially during morning and evening peak hours, the Authority said that it pays great attention to the development of road networks and public transport, whether within Dubai or at the inter-emirate level.In this context, the Authority explained that traffic coming from Sharjah is high, estimated at about 1.2 million vehicles per day, which is accommodated through five main roads with a total of 25 lanes within Dubai.The authority confirmed that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road is one of the most important traffic routes in this direction, as it includes eight lanes within Dubai, which represents about 32% of the total lanes allocated for entering the emirate from the direction of Sharjah, which makes it one of the most accommodating roads for daily traffic, and the most affected by the high demand for transportation.The authority explained that efforts to address congestion are not limited to increasing the capacity of roads but also include developing an integrated transport system that provides effective alternatives to private vehicles. It also pointed at the availability of public transport options between Dubai and Sharjah currently, including bus routes and marine transport services that provide diverse alternatives and options for transportation between Dubai and Sharjah.The authority explained that it continues to implement integrated plans and projects aimed at developing road infrastructure and enhancing the public transport system, in order to keep pace with the increasing demand for transportation between Dubai and Sharjah. Additionally, the current and future plans include the implementation of several strategic projects to expand and develop the parallel and supporting routes for Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, which will contribute to distributing traffic over a wider network of roads. The Authority also continues to conduct studies and develop plans aimed at raising the efficiency of the road network and enhancing public transport services between Dubai and Sharjah, in continuous coordination with the concerned authorities, in line with the rapid population and urban growth rates in Dubai and the neighboring emirates.The authority affirmed that developing transport infrastructure is a strategic priority within Dubai’s future plans, through expanding traffic projects, adopting smart solutions and developing mass transit services, in order to ensure the provision of a more efficient and sustainable transport network capable of accommodating future growth in population and vehicle numbers.
