The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE)) received on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Cairo Liao Liqiang, along with the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt Zhao Liuqing and an accompanying diplomatic delegation, to explore investment opportunities in its ports and industrial zones and discuss ways to boost bilateral cooperation. The meeting was attended by senior SCZONE officials and representatives of COSCO Shipping Lines in Egypt, focusing on enhancing economic and investment ties, particularly in industrial, logistics, and maritime services sectors. Deputy Chairman of SCZONE for the Southern Region, Ahmed Gamal, received the ambassador at the authority’s Sokhna headquarters, while deputy Chairman for the Northern Zone, Mohamed Ibrahim, had hosted the delegation earlier in Port Said. The visit included field tours of Sokhna Port and West Port Said Port to review ongoing development and expansion works, as well as operational and logistical capabilities that strengthen their role as key regional hubs for trade and maritime services, boosting the zone’s competitiveness globally. Discussions also covered available investment opportunities across SCZONE’s ports and industrial areas, highlighting the zone’s strategic location, integrated infrastructure, investor-friendly incentives, and streamlined procedures under the one-stop-shop system, all of which support attracting more investments and enhancing global trade flows. The visit comes amid growing Egypt–China strategic partnership, reflected in the increasing volume and diversity of Chinese investments within SCZONE, particularly in industrial zones such as the Sokhna Industrial Zone, home to the TEDA Egypt economic and trade cooperation zone, and the Qantara West Industrial Zone, which has recently attracted around 30 projects out of a total of 52, especially in textiles and ready-made garments, supporting global supply chains and boosting Egyptian exports while creating thousands of jobs.
