Saudi Foreign Minister Arrives in Washington on Official Visit
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Washington on an official visit, where he is due to meet his US counterpart Marco Rubio.
The two officials are set to discuss bilateral relations and the latest developments on the regional and international fronts.
Saudi Arabia Announces $6 Million Contribution to UN Counter-Terrorism Center
Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah announced that the Kingdom will provide $6 million in financial support for the programs of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Center (UNCCT).
The announcement was made during his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Kingdom’s financial contribution to the Center will be provided over four calendar years, beginning in the 2027 fiscal year.
This support reflects the Kingdom’s belief in the importance of a United Nations center dedicated to delivering capacity-building programs across various areas of counter-terrorism.
The Kingdom’s support for UNCCT stems from its pivotal role in combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, regardless of its perpetrators, as well as its recognition of the Center’s importance and its constructive and effective role in building the capacities of member states and unifying global efforts in this field.
The contribution also represents a continuation of the fruitful cooperation between the Kingdom and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.
The Kingdom initially contributed $110 million to UNCCT’s establishment and, more recently, provided $300,000 to fund the Arab Counter-Terrorism Strategy project.
Saudi Defense Minister Discusses Defense Cooperation with Malaysian Counterpart
Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz reviewed with his Malaysian counterpart Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin on Sunday prospects of bilateral cooperation in the defense field between their countries.
During a telephone call, the officials discussed efforts made regarding current regional developments and a number of issues of mutual interest.
Saudi Arabia Participates in G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting on Ebola Response
Dr. Nouf Alnumair, deputy minister for international cooperation at Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health, represented Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on accelerating collective action to defeat Ebola, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Saudi Press Agency reported Sunday.
The meeting brought together representatives of G20 countries, invited nations and international organizations, as well as senior officials from affected countries, to discuss strengthening international coordination, accelerating joint efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak, supporting response efforts in affected countries, and bolstering health systems to curb transmission and prevent cross-border spread.
Discussions highlighted the need to unify international efforts to address cross-border health threats, strengthen coordination among governments, international institutions, and health bodies, and accelerate support to affected areas, including surveillance, diagnosis, field response, and capacity building, while enhancing regional and international health preparedness.
