RIYADH —The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Saudi Arabia’s welcome of the UN Security Council members’ condemnation of Houthi missile attacks against the Kingdom since July 13, while calling on the international community to take a firm stance against practices that threaten efforts to achieve peace in Yemen. In a statement issued by the ministry on Saturday, Saudi Arabia welcomed the UN Security Council statement, issued on August 7, 2026, which condemned the missile attacks launched by the terrorist Houthi militia against the Kingdom since July 13, as well as attacks against commercial vessels since July 22. The Kingdom expressed its appreciation for the statement’s affirmation of the need to adhere to international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216, and to respect the sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity of Yemen, as well as its rejection of acts that threaten regional security and the rights and freedoms of maritime navigation. The statement reiterated Saudi Arabia’s call on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in implementing the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and to take a firm stance against practices and violations that threaten the security and stability of the region and the safety of international navigation and trade, and that undermine efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen and the region. The Kingdom reaffirmed its determination to safeguard its security and sovereignty, and its right to defend itself, its citizens, its capabilities, and its facilities against any attack targeting them, and to take all necessary measures in accordance with international law. It also affirmed its unwavering support for Yemen’s legitimate government and for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen aimed at achieving peace, security, and stability in Yemen, in a manner that strengthens the security and stability of the region and preserves the safety and security of maritime navigation.
