Saudi Arabia urges US to hold fire on Iran-fearing it could be hit next

ALBAWABA — Saudi officials have urged Washington to delay any renewed attack on Iran, fearing that retaliation could hit the kingdom’s water, electricity and energy infrastructure, according to a report published Friday.

Euronews, citing The Jerusalem Post’s regional sources, reported that Riyadh asked the Trump administration to give diplomatic efforts more time before deciding on military action.

The concern extends beyond oil facilities: renewed fighting could threaten infrastructure supporting essential services inside Saudi Arabia. The reported request has not been publicly confirmed by Saudi or US authorities.

According to the same report, Saudi representatives also sought assurances from Tehran that major Saudi oil and gas facilities would be spared if hostilities resumed. Iranian officials reportedly declined to provide that commitment.

The exchanges highlight the risks facing Gulf countries as Washington considers its next move against Iran.

Meanwhile, Qatari mediators returned to Tehran on Friday to pursue an agreement, an official briefed on the negotiations told Reuters. The official said the mediation was coordinated with Washington.

A central disagreement remains over sequencing: the United States wants nuclear issues addressed from the outset, while Iran demands an end to the US port blockade and the lifting of oil-export sanctions first.

The renewed mediation follows Tehran’s rejection of earlier proposals, leaving significant differences unresolved as regional governments seek to prevent another escalation.
