Saudi Arabia explores museum cooperation with Victoria and Albert Museum in London

LONDON — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture discussed potential areas of cooperation with Victoria and Albert Museum during an official visit to London, including long- and short-term loans, art exhibition exchanges, and youth-focused museum workshops.Assistant Minister of Culture Rakan bin Ibrahim Al-Touq visited the museum on Friday, where he met with Director Tristram Hunt.During the meeting, both sides discussed the importance of strengthening cultural cooperation and exchange between Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom across various sectors, including museums.The talks also covered opportunities for collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the museum in areas such as long- and short-term object loans, exchange of art exhibitions, and the development of workshops aimed at engaging younger audiences and bringing them closer to the museum sector.Al-Touq also toured the Victoria and Albert Museum, which was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.The museum is considered the world’s largest museum of applied and decorative arts, housing millions of objects across 145 galleries that document thousands of years of art history from Europe, North America, Asia, and North Africa.Its collections include ceramics, glass, textiles, national dress, silver, jewelry, furniture, sculpture, prints, paintings, and photography.
