Saudi Arabia elected ITU Council vice chair

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has been elected Vice Chair of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council, represented by Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Partnerships at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Mansour Al-Qurashi.The appointment was confirmed following the ITU Council’s 2026 session held in Geneva.Saudi Arabia has been a member of the ITU Council since 1965. The council is the organization’s highest governing body between plenipotentiary conferences and is responsible for overseeing operations, setting policies, and approving strategic and financial plans.The ITU Council consists of 48 member states out of 190, and plays a central role in guiding the union’s work, monitoring programs, and ensuring the effective implementation of its policies.
