Saudi Arabia’s Dammam Metropolitan Area, comprising the city of Dammam, Al-Khobar and Al-Bayda governorates, and Dhahran Center, has joined the global Quality of Life Initiative, led by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) in partnership with the Quality of Life Program, enhancing the area's standing among global cities adopting best practices in urban quality of life measurement. The Sharqia Development Authority announced that the metropolitan area joined as a single urban agglomeration, allowing for an integrated approach to measuring quality of life through global indicators that support urban planning and service improvement in line with Saudi Vision 2030. The initiative is built on a framework of nine main pillars and 43 sub-indicators covering the environment, mobility, housing, health, and governance, providing a reliable database to guide decision-making and benchmark the area's performance against cities worldwide. The move reflects the authority's commitment to global best practices in urban planning and sustainable development to enhance the area's competitiveness and improve quality of life for its residents.
