Dubai: Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has expanded its electric bicycle delivery service by adding seven new locations across the emirate following the successful pilot phase launched in February. The service, which initially operated in four areas, has now been extended to:Al Twar 1Al Twar 2Al Qusais 1Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid BoulevardDubai Media CityJumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT)Dubai MarinaThese join the original service areas of:Al KaramaAl HamriyaUmm HurairAl MankhoolThe expansion supports the goals of the Commercial Transport and Logistics Strategy 2030 and the First and Last Mile Strategy, which aim to enhance sustainability, reduce operating costs and improve delivery services in line with international best practices.According to the RTA, the expansion follows the implementation of a comprehensive regulatory framework governing delivery operations, including licensing requirements, operating procedures, quality standards and compliance measures designed to ensure safety and efficiency. The authority said the new locations were selected based on several criteria, including the availability of suitable infrastructure and dedicated routes, the nature of the areas, proximity to retail outlets and restaurants, growing demand from delivery companies, and the increasing use of flexible mobility solutions. The initiative is being implemented in partnership with private-sector operators through agreements that define operational requirements, compliance standards and safety procedures. Results from the pilot phase showed strong public support for the service, with customer satisfaction reaching approximately 99%, while driver satisfaction exceeded 90%. The trial also helped identify and address operational challenges in coordination with industry partners.RTA noted that it has developed an integrated regulatory framework for the delivery sector to strengthen governance, improve service quality and support the continued growth of the industry, which has experienced significant expansion in recent years both in terms of demand and the number of delivery bicycles operating across Dubai.
