RIYADH — The Roads General Authority (RGA) stated that the Saudi Road Code sets technical requirements for regulating roadside parking locations to enhance traffic safety, as part of ongoing efforts to improve quality of life and raise safety and efficiency standards across Saudi Arabia’s road network.The authority explained that the requirements include maintaining a minimum distance of 15 meters between the stopping zone at traffic signals and the first parking space at signalized intersections, and at least six meters between the intersection and the first parking space at non-signalized intersections.The requirements also mandate maintaining a safe distance between pedestrian crossings and the first parking space, as well as separating parallel parking spaces with dividers to prevent gaps between them from being used as vehicle lanes.The authority noted that the Code serves as a comprehensive technical reference for all entities responsible for the road sector in the Kingdom, including ministries, city development authorities, regional secretariats, and city and governorate municipalities. It provides the necessary information, guidelines, technical drawings, procedures, and checklists for planning, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining all types of roads while ensuring compliance with environmental and safety requirements.RGA affirmed its commitment to establishing a unified and transparent legislative and regulatory framework that ensures policy integration and regulatory compliance. This includes developing the necessary policies and regulations, including the Saudi Road Code, in line with its mandate to regulate the road sector.
