Dubai: A recovery vehicle driver was killed in Dubai’s Al Qusais Industrial Area after a car fell on him while it was being unloaded.Dubai Police called on recovery vehicle drivers to exercise extreme caution and fully comply with safety procedures during loading and unloading operations.Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Directorate of Traffic at Dubai Police, said the Command and Control Centre received a report of the incident. Initial findings revealed that the vehicle fell suddenly during unloading due to negligence and failure to follow occupational safety measures. He added that specialised traffic accident teams and patrols were immediately dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the incident. Preliminary investigations indicated a miscalculation while operating the crane, combined with failure to properly secure both the vehicle and equipment during the unloading process.Traffic patrols secured the accident site and regulated movement in the industrial area to prevent congestion and ensure the swift arrival of ambulance and rescue teams, who responded promptly.Brigadier bin Suwaidan stressed that such incidents highlight the serious risks associated with failing to comply with occupational safety standards during transport and loading operations, whether on public roads or at work sites. He emphasised the importance of strictly adhering to safety procedures when handling heavy equipment and vehicles. He also noted that Dubai Police continue to prioritise awareness among drivers and workers through field programmes and targeted media campaigns aimed at promoting safe practices and reducing accidents.Dubai Police further rely on smart systems and advanced technologies to monitor dangerous behaviours and enhance safety across roads and public areas, with the goal of protecting lives and reducing incidents caused by negligence.
