RIYADH — The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has updated health requirements, strengthened field inspections, and adopted advanced technological solutions to monitor food establishments and safeguard consumer health and food safety. These measures include using portable cameras to document restaurant violations and food safety breaches, developing health certificates for employees and enhancing their electronic issuance, providing training for personnel working in the sector, and strengthening food safety practices.On the regulatory front, municipalities and local authorities conduct field visits to restaurants, kitchens, and food outlets to verify compliance with health requirements, monitor food preparation, storage, and handling practices, identify violations, and take legal action against establishments that fail to comply. The ministry has also adopted mobile cameras as a key component of its smart monitoring system. The cameras are used to document inspection activities and are directly linked to the Mumtathil application, enhancing transparency and protecting the rights of both inspectors and establishment owners throughout the monitoring process. These efforts complement the existing coordination between municipalities and other relevant health and food safety authorities, as well as comprehensive monitoring and compliance tracking at food establishments across Saudi Arabia.The ministry urged the public to report any observations or violations at food establishments, emphasizing the importance of community participation in supporting monitoring efforts, ensuring the swift processing of reports, and maintaining food safety.
