PARIS — World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard announced that he was leaving Marseille, where he had been on loan from Inter Milan and played only one season. “Turning a page with Marseille today,” Pavard said on social media. “Wearing this shirt will remain a powerful experience in my career and in my life. I have always tried to give everything on the pitch and to represent this club with respect and commitment. “I leave with a lot of emotions, lessons, and the memory of a dressing room that stayed united right to the end. Thank you to the club, the staff, my teammates, and everyone who stood behind us this season.” Pavard, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, arrived in Marseille from Inter last summer on a loan deal with the option to buy. But after a strong start, his performances over the season dipped. The 55-times capped international, 30, was loudly whistled when he came on as a replacement at Marseille’s Velodrome stadium for the Ligue 1 match against Rennes on Sunday, the last of his 37 appearances for the Mediterranean club. Marseille finished the season in fourth place on 59 points, well behind champions Paris Saint-Germain, on 76. Their placing guarantees Marseille a spot in the third qualifying round of the Champions League next season. The post Pavard announces Marseille exit appeared first on Egyptian Gazette.
