Over $1,121 billion — Insurance costs of stolen luxury brands in France riots

ALBAWABA - Riots erupted in France over the high cost of living and the deterioration of education. Protesters broke into shops, including luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Sephora.

Financial Times reported Monday, citing French commerce minister Serge Papin, that rioters caused damage to at least 3,000 businesses.

As a response to violent riots and the damage that hit brands and shops, the government vowed "emergency financial and employment support for those enterprises".

Financial Times reported that insurance costs are set to hit between €1 billion and €1.2 billion ($1,121 billion to $1,346 billion), according to Morningstar, an independent investment research, ratings, and insights firm for investors worldwide.

It is worth noting that during the 2023 protests, the insurance costs hit €730 million ($819,162 million).

French Minister Delegate for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Affairs of France, Anne Le Hénanff, demanded the return of the items and wrote, "Stolen items from this weekend are being offered for sale on certain platforms. Such behavior will not go unpunished. We will not let this slide… We expect these platforms to remove the listings in question without delay. Furthermore, they will be required to cooperate closely with state services so that the resellers can be prosecuted."
