ALBAWABA - The North Korean supreme leader oversaw the test launch of a “new-type weapon” system; showcasing it as evidence for the country’s advanced military technology, according to NK state media on Tuesday.
The announcement followed North Korean missile launches two days earlier, launching two short-range ballistic missiles into waters off its east coast into the Sea of Japan in what it described as a joint firepower drill.
The weapons fired in the exercise hit "the targets with 100 percent accuracy", according to North Korea state media. As for the “new-type weapon”, the nuclear-armed country's missile bureau said it tested it "successfully” in the presence of Kim on Sunday.

South Korea condemned the tests as violations of UN Security Council resolutions and urged its northern neighbor to halt its ballistic missile activities; while Japan lodged a "stern protest" over the launches citing threats to regional peace and security.
North Korea rejected an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) resolution calling for a halt to its nuclear program, saying that its nuclear status is "irreversibly and permanently fixed".
Korean leader Kim Jong Un described the “new-type weapon” as an "an incurable headache and a very cruel and unavoidable blow" adding that acquiring “such a technology is of weighty significance in the state's readiness for war and the future development of the armed forces".
