Musk’s Starlink targeted in arson attempt, Lithuania points to Moscow

ALBAWABA — An attempted arson attack on a Starlink station in Lithuania was aimed at weakening Ukraine’s military communications, Lithuanian authorities alleged after a fire broke out near Vilnius on October 18.

Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Centre, said the incident was being treated as Russia-linked sabotage, Reuters reported.

The fire was extinguished quickly, leaving minor damage and no interruption to operations. Authorities were searching for those responsible.

The target was infrastructure belonging to Elon Musk’s SpaceX network, which Ukrainian forces use extensively for battlefield communications.

“Ukraine is the target,” Vitkauskas said, linking the Lithuanian incident to earlier attacks on Starlink facilities in Poland and Bulgaria.

“I'm not sure Zelensky knows what he's talking about”: Rubio denies White House role in Starlink slowdown

The US secretary of state insists no one ordered Starlink speeds to be reduced in Ukraine. “It sort of happened,” he said, adding that service has reportedly been restored.

Rubio then shifted the focus to Starshield, a separate military system Ukraine wants access to for deep strikes inside Russia. He confirmed that talks are ongoing but that Ukraine still has no access.

Worth noting: Rubio spent much of his answer explaining Starshield instead. He categorically denied US involvement but never explained what actually caused the disruption.

A September fire at a Polish facility damaged its power system and backup generator. Polish authorities blamed Russian sabotage and detained four suspects in that case.

Lithuania’s prime minister, Mindaugas Sinkevicius, said the company had received warnings about possible attacks and increased security beforehand. Investigators found containers of incendiary liquid at the scene, according to reporting by the Kyiv Independent.

Moscow has dismissed accusations of involvement in such sabotage as baseless. The attribution of the Lithuanian attack remains an allegation by authorities.=
