Musk mocks Republican defeat after spending millions backing the party

Billionaire Elon Musk mockingly commented on Wednesday on the Republicans' defeat in the US midterm elections, after spending hundreds of millions of dollars to support the party.

The SpaceX CEO joked: "It seems the space lasers I use to interfere in elections didn't work this time," after Ken Paxton, the candidate backed by Musk in the Texas Senate race, lost.

The world's richest man, Musk, fears that a sweeping Democratic victory in the US Congress could slow the pace of building data centers dedicated to artificial intelligence.

He commented on X: "Data centers in space now look like an attractive option."
