As part of efforts by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency to support the micro-enterprise sector, improve living standards, and create temporary and sustainable employment — particularly in unplanned areas — the agency continues its co-operation with Cairo governorate and international development partners to implement infrastructure and community development projects. In this respect, Governor of Cairo, Ibrahim Saber, received on Wednesday Chief Executive Officer of MSMEDA, Basel Rahmy, and his delegation at the governorate headquarters, where a supplementary financing agreement worth LE13.5 million was signed to complete development works in Ezbet Khairallah. The agreement falls under the Urban Upgrading and Employment Enhancement Programme in unplanned areas of Cairo and Giza, funded by the European Union through a grant delegated to the French Development Agency, in the presence of senior officials. MSMEDA Chief Executive Officer Rahmy stated that joint projects with Cairo Governorate between July 2014 and March 2016 totalled LE148 million, generating approximately 386,000 workdays for informal workers using labour-intensive methods. Governor Saber, for his part, praised the partnership, highlighting its role in supporting local development, promoting small and medium enterprises, and creating sustainable employment, while noting ongoing support for entrepreneurs and improved public services. Rahmy added that the new agreement will benefit around 25,000 residents and create 6,750 workdays, covering road and pedestrian upgrades, post-sanitation street works, and the development of Fouad Galal Primary School. He also commended co-operation under the programme, which includes water and sewage upgrades, road paving, lighting, public spaces, markets, schools, health units, parking facilities, and the Abboud pedestrian bridge.
