Mohammed Al Gergawi: National statistics programme strengthens policy-making and reflects UAE’s economic transformation

His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, said the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, reflects a government approach based on continuous development, anticipating global changes and adopting best practices to strengthen the UAE’s competitiveness and leadership.Commenting on the approval of the National Programme for Developing the Statistics System in the UAE, Al Gergawi said the comprehensive national review of gross domestic product (GDP) represents a strategic step that highlights the growing importance of accuracy, flexibility, efficiency, advanced technologies, global best practices and continuously updated data in shaping future plans, policies and strategies.He noted that the initiative will better reflect the sustained growth and diversification of the national economy and support the achievement of the UAE’s development goals.Al Gergawi said the review will provide a more accurate and comprehensive picture of the national economy through improved measurement of the contribution of different economic sectors. He added that this will enhance the quality of government policies and decision-making, strengthen the confidence of investors and international institutions, and reinforce the UAE’s position as a global model in leveraging data and statistics to support comprehensive and sustainable economic development.He further explained that the review reflects the high level of institutional integration between federal entities, local statistics centres and data providers through the unification of statistical methodologies and the expanded use of administrative records and modern data sources.According to Al Gergawi, these efforts will improve the reliability of official statistics, raise the quality of economic indicators in line with international standards, and present a more accurate picture of the size of the national economy and the dynamics of its growth.
