By Mohamed Attia During the closing session of the 11th edition of ICAO African-Indian Ocean (AFI) Aviation Week, Mohamed Rahma was honoured on the occasion of assuming his new role as ICAO Regional Director for the Middle East. Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh el-Hefny, presented him with the Ministry’s shield in recognition of his distinguished career and valuable contributions to supporting the international civil aviation sector. El-Hefny said the honour reflects Egypt’s appreciation for national professionals who have represented the country with distinction in international organisations. He noted that Rahma had carried out his responsibilities with professionalism and dedication throughout his career, contributing to ICAO programmes and boosting co-operation with member states, helping advance civil aviation and support the development of air transport across the region. For his part, ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar Gómez praised Rahma’s professional expertise and extensive experience, describing him as one of the organisation’s distinguished senior leaders. He said Rahma’s record of professionalism, leadership and ability to deliver results made him well suited for his new responsibilities. Rahma expressed his appreciation to el-Hefny for the recognition, saying it was a source of pride and reflected Egypt’s support for its professionals serving in international organisations. He also thanked the Egyptian government, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and ICAO for their continued support throughout his career, adding that his years at the organisation had been a valuable professional experience that strengthened his belief in partnership and teamwork in achieving the goals of civil aviation.
