Matthew McConaughey urges Americans to vote Independent ahead of midterms

ALBAWABA - Renowned American actor Matthew McConaughey urged American voters to look beyond Democrats and Republicans ahead of the November midterm elections, stressing the importance of Independent candidates in the race.

McConaughey took to social media with a six-minute video where he said, "So, they’ve been telling us for years that an independent vote is a wasted vote. Well, a great question for our times is: How’s that unwasted vote been working out for you?"

The 56-year-old actor best known for his role in Cristopher Nolan's Interstellar stressed that the discussion is not about him but the upcoming elections. He said, "I’m not here today to endorse a candidate or a party. I’m here endorsing two things: fairness and reality."

In his words, "The number one political identity in America today is not Republican. It is not Democrat. It is Independent. There are more of us than either party, so Independents belong in the fight. Not as a protest, not as a spoiler, but as a real and potential winner."

McConaughey says that voting Independent could help bring both parties (Democrats and Republicans) back to the middle "where most American values live, then electing Independents is a mechanism to make that happen."

He added that he is not telling people who to vote for, but to study who best represents their values and beliefs. The True Detective star said, "Check if they can be that voice of reason, and if they can, treat them like a potential winner because they can be."
