YANBU — King Fahad Industrial Port in Yanbu received a specialized shipment aboard the Pacific Titan carrying nine wind turbines with all their components and accessories. Designated for the Sitarah and Shaqra wind energy projects, the shipment included 27 turbine blades, in addition to supplementary turbine components for wind-powered electricity generation. The projects form part of the National Renewable Energy Program, implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy through the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC), which is responsible for preparing preliminary studies, tendering electricity generation projects, signing power purchase agreements, and concluding energy storage service agreements with developer consortiums. The shipment, along with similar deliveries for the National Renewable Energy Program's wind energy projects, is among the largest ever received and handled through the port's integrated operational and logistics system, demonstrating its readiness and operational efficiency. Receiving shipments of this scale highlights the advanced operational and logistics capabilities of King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu, which benefits from its strategic location on the Red Sea coast and its ability to accommodate specialized vessels and handle oversized and heavy-lift cargo. The port also reflects the efforts of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) to develop the Kingdom's port network, enhance its operational and logistics efficiency, and strengthen its role in supporting supply chains for industrial projects in general and energy projects in particular. The shipment underscores the role played by the Kingdom's ports and logistics zones in supporting renewable energy sector projects, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and relevant authorities, and Saudi Arabia's efforts to expand the use of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems so they account for approximately 50 percent of the electricity generation mix by 2030, subject to electricity demand growth.
