The sixty-day deadline set by the US–Iranian memorandum of understanding to reach a final agreement ended yesterday, without the anticipated settlement coming to fruition. For Lebanon, the significance of the deadline’s expiration lies not only in determining whether the memorandum has fallen through, but also in determining which ceasefire will remain in effect: the one that Hezbollah links to the Islamabad understanding between Washington and Tehran, or the one that the Lebanese state links to the framework agreement signed with Israel under U.S. auspices.
